Mills & Farrell
Mills & Farrell are noted for their rootsy minimalist approach. Using two voices and acoustic instrumentation, inspired by Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, The Milk Carton Kids, and the Waifs, the duo have a timeless sound characterized by intricately woven acoustic guitars and tight harmonies. Coming from backgrounds of Australian rock (David Farrell) and Nova Scotia folk (Janet Mills), geographic improbability adds an undefinable element to their modern and traditional offerings.
On their return visit to Cafe #9, the duo will be playing songs from newly released and highly acclaimed album ‘Crooked Path’, born from the dramatic relocation to the Northeast of England in the town of Consett, outside Newcastle, from their previous base in Nova Scotia, Canada.
‘…deliciously lilting, Tex-Mex-flavoured…’ (Folk London)
‘…natural warmth full of casual charm….’ (Americana UK)
‘…that kind of rootsy folk that despite being stripped back, feels full of body (The Crack Magazine)
‘…evoke feelings of Simon and Garfunkel…’ (NE Volume Magazine)
‘…delicately interwoven guitars that synchronize seamlessly with rich, engaging vocal harmonies…’ (Folk & Honey)
‘…styles and voices complement each other in wonderful collective talent…’ (FATEA magazine)
